Morzine Is More Than Just Winter Sports

There are plenty of great activities to take part in when summer rolls into Morzine: cycling, hiking, picnics, there is so much more to the area than just winter sports. When the snow recedes and the sun comes out, a whole different side to the resort reveals itself, giving visitors access to gorgeous alpine pastures, green mountainsides and crystal clear skies. The entire Portes du Soleil area offers plenty of choice in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with the winter sport accommodation continuing to provide a wonderful place to stay for those who want a suitable base for groups of friends or family in summer.

On two wheels

It’s almost as if there’s actually more to do once the snow melts away in Morzine! Cycling has become one of the area’s most popular pastimes. The Alpine roads provide many fine opportunities for those who know their way around a road bike to push themselves to the limits. But emulating those on the Tour de France as they cut their way through the area is probably not an option for the faint hearted or weak legged. Another possibility is to take part in any of the first class mountain biking opportunities that exist at the resort. The Mountain Biking World Championship in nearby Champery is popular amongst the MTB fraternity, while the there are numerous routes for all levels of experience in the hills around Morzine. Cycling enthusiasts should speak to the staff in local bike shops or consult one of the numerous blogs run by experts in the area. Accommodation for those taking part in any of these two-wheeled activities can be found in many of the excellent chalets located in Morzine. Cycling facilities are built into a good number of the chalets, so make sure you ask when booking if the chalet has bike racks or another kind of storage.

Other Activities

Away from the bike, there’s plenty more to get involved in when you spend summer in the Portes du Soleil. This is France don’t forget, so the weather will often be very pleasant – what better reason could you need to go wild in the resort’s very own water park? The park has an open air Olympic-sized swimming pool as well as a children’s pool and water slides. Away from the water the park offers visitors a volleyball court, games area and a bar and restaurant area, as well as grassy spaces that are perfect for picnics. For those who fancy a spot of open water swimming there are a couple of mountain lakes within easy reach of the resort too.
