Will CBD Gummies Get You High?

If you play sports and are struggling with recovery times, or you are a stressed-out office worker struggling with sleep then you have probably had someone recommend CBD gummies to you. Indeed, these treates are useful for everything from supporting rest and recovery in athletes, to bringing down chronic pain, anxiety and more.

What a lot of people don’t understand, though, is what is in the gummy bears, and how they work.

CBD gummies are standard sweets that are either coated in or infused with, CBD oil. The best ones are made with gelatin, sugar, flavoring and CBD oil so that you know exactly how much oil will be in each sweet. Some of the cheaper brands coat the sweets, which means that the oil might rub off in transit, and the dose is less predictable.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the most important cannabinoids. It interacts with the CB1 receptors in the body, helping to reduce inflammation, improve sleep quality, bring down anxiety, and even reduce convulsions in epileptics. It is a powerful compound with numerous beneficial effects.

CBD is just one of many cannabinoids. One of the other compounds is THC. The key difference between CBD and THC is that THC is a psychoactive compound. It gets you high. It is THC that most people are looking for if they use marijuana recreationally. CBD, on the other hand, does not get you high. It does interact with the brain in other ways so technically it is psychoactive, but most people would describe it as ‘not-psychoactive’ because of the primary impacts that it has.

THC can make the effects of CBD more pronounced. CBD can take some of the ‘edge’ off a THC high and make the high last for a little longer.

On its own CBD will not get you high. At a certain level it has a therapeutic effect, and if you go over that level you will not notice any more benefit, or any unpleasant side effects. Taking more CBD than you need is a waste of money but should not be harmful for a generally healthy person.

Can You Take CBD Gummies Safely?

There is no reason why a healthy person would not be able to take CBD gummies. If you have a job that involves drug testing, then you should check what the company tests for. Most companies test for THC, and if you are taking pure CBD gummies then you will not have this flagged up in a test.

Indeed, even for insurance purposes,it should be safe to take CBD because health insurance companies do not care about CBD use. They do care about the use of recreational drugs, but CBD is not a drug. It is not regulated like a drug, it is sold in most health food stores now. So, you do not need to disclose that you are using CBD when you go for a drug test.

CBD Gummies and Children

One concern that crops up now that there are so many CBD candies on the market is the idea of CBD being marketed towards children, or at the very least, towards parents of children. The issue here is that CBD is unregulated and not well researched. While there are no known deaths associated with CBD and it is generally thought to be safe, the product regulations surrounding it are nowhere near as strict as with traditional medication because it is not traditional medication. Researchers do not yet know if it will have a different effect on a child’s developing brain compared to on an adult’s. Considering marijuana can alter brain development in children and teenagers, and those who start using it very young are more likely to suffer from paranoia or schizophrenia compared to those who start using it after their brains are developed, it’swise to be cautious.

There have been some cases of parents using CBD to treat seizures and other medical conditions, and if you can source a pure, uncontaminated CBD product and use it while under the supervision of a qualified medical professional then you will most likely be OK. For most people, though, it is probably not a good idea to risk CBD oil. After all for minors. The oil itself is likely safe, but you cannot be certain that the CBD gummies or candies that you are buying are pure. They could have other compounds in them that would be unsafe for a child to use. There are plenty of alternative treatments for any condition that a child might have that are well tested, carefully regulated, and safe.

Are CBD Gummies Worth It?

CBD Gummies are quite expensive compared to standard sweets. However, they are not meant to be snacked on like a packet of gummy bears. Rather, they are intended to be a supplement or a medication. They are a delivery mechanism for CBD – a substance which tastes quite bitter when taken alone. The idea is that you would have one or two sweets per day and that eating the sweets is more palatable than just taking CBD orally.

In that respect, edibles are well worth the money. If you respond to CBD well and find that it does help to reduce inflammation or to help you relax or sleep better on a night then you will get your money’s worth out of gummies. They are a convenient package, they taste better than the oil and it is easier to take a pre-determined dose than it is when you are using oil and trying to figure out how many drops to add to whatever recipe, or to put under your tongue. Some people might feel that oils are more versatile than candies. Indeed there is a case for both types. CBD candy serves a clear purpose though and it fills a useful gap in the market for those who value convenience and taking something with a bit of a nicer taste, rather than a bitter oil.
