1. Algebra Heat-Ups
@geoffkrall shared a year’s really worth of algebra warm-ups. These are made to healthy with the US curriculum where college students review maths in discrete chunks, which is extremely diverse to the tactic we consider in the United kingdom. In the US, college students study a class in Algebra, then Geometry, then Algebra 2. Did you see that Rob Eastaway has teamed up with Shakespeare improviser Rebecca MacMillan to operate a sequence of talks for Critical Stage 4 pupils in Birmingham in November? A great deal Ado About Figures – Maths & Shakespeare provides a one of a kind option for a joint excursion for Maths, English and History departments. I wager it will be good.

I formally end my Assistant Principal purpose and become Head of Maths on 1st September. I put in the initially 7 days of the vacations receiving trapped into Head of Maths stuff, which I completely enjoyed. I produced a quantity of curriculum variations, rewrote our techniques of work, created assessments, prepared 1st classes, that form of matter… I have also invested some time preparing classes for Certification of Even more Maths which I’ll be instructing for the 1st time from September. I have a course of 32 exceptional 12 months 11 mathematicians raring to go. Right after taking a 4 12 months split from instructing A level to established up a new university, it can be pretty to have calculus back in my lifestyle. And trig identities! As considerably as I have liked focusing on Essential Levels 3 and 4 for the final several yrs, these matters are my delighted spot.

I am off on holiday break with my household for two weeks tomorrow – we are heading to a cottage in Cornwall. I can not hold out. When I get back again, I’m looking ahead to a couple of chilled weeks at the conclusion of August, such as catching up with maths teachers at Dr Frost’s triannual beverages.
